For Ellen Wasser

From the sweet earth she was born
our sister and friend

A fellow traveler in this ever-growing world

With strong hands and kind spirit

Season after season
she worked the ever-blooming fields

From the first frost of springtime planting
through the autumn’s colorful harvest song

Writing within her soul the gentle lyrics of laughter
and offering to all a sweet prayer of hope and kindness

Far more than a farmer

She was a caretaker of HaShem’s fertile soil

For from tender seeds grew her living Torah

Words penned not on pages of paper
rather upon the vast blue Canadian sky

She looked each night to the stars for guidance
awakened anew with twilight’s dawn

To once more share with us all

The gift

The wonder

The miracle of the land upon which we walk

How her spirit danced in the light

Casting upon the mountains high the reflective shadow
spirit born to praise the Great Gardener

With the sweet and healing psalm of your smile
shall live on in we who loved you

Blessed by your grace forever reaching to the skies

May Rabbi Wasser and his family be comforted among the mourners of
Zion and Jerusalem and may Ellen's memory be for a blessing to them.
